We had a wonderful year this year!
2013-2014 School YearThe school year was exciting with four vocal groups (Eagle Chorus, Eaglet Chorus, Kinder Chorus, and Aquila Ensemble) and two instrumental groups (Percussion Group and Recorder Band). Over 275 K-8th graders participated in the music programs this year.
Our first big concerts were the two Winter Sings. The 4th-8th graders performed again at the Big Bear Performing Arts Center (our sixth year there) and the 1st-3rd graders performed in the Multi-Purpose Room at North Shore. The Kinders also performed there for their Christmas Program. Bruce and Kim Voigt wonderfully hosted the 1st-8th graders again at Big Bear Snow Play for our rewards field trip, capped off by pizza by at the school. The spring is our big performance season. We began with the District Music Festival at Big Bear High School where the Eagle Chorus joined with the Baldwin Show Choir to perform "Born to Hand Jive" and the crowd pleaser "Stay Tuned!" The Eaglet Chorus joined with the Baldwin Chorus to sing two songs from their musical, Dinostars! The Recorder Band performed two numbers, the Drum Corps performed "Wipeout". The Aquila Ensemble introduced their competition program "Songs from Oz". The Aquila Ensemble performed at the San Bernardino County Music Educator's Association Elementary School Festival at East Valley High School in Redlands and then spent the afternoon (for the sixth year visiting) at Fiesta Village. They then competed in two competitions and two festivals bringing home a Fourth Place, two First Places, a Superior Rating, and a Silver Rating! The Spring Celebration was held at North Shore with all groups but Kinders participating. All the student leaders participated and helped with the production. The Eagle Chorus, Percussion Group, and Aquila Ensemble then went to Knott's Berry Farm where they entertained guests. The Baldwin Lane Show Choir accompanied them. This is the ninth year that the BVUSD/NSES music program has been invited back to Knott's to perform on the Fiesta Village Stage. (And we were assured by our wonderful Knott's host that we would be invited back again next year). After performing, everyone had a great deal of fun riding all the rides. The Eaglet Chorus and Recorder Band went to perform, with the Baldwin Lane Chorus, at the Skilled Nursing Facility at Bear Valley Community Hospital. They then spent two hours at Big Bear's famous Swim Beach. The Kinder Chorus had their second performance at their graduation ceremonies on the last day of school. |
